Corporate Watch, which investigates and exposes corporate environmental crimes and violations, has named TXU Corporation one of the nation's "Filthy Five" electrical utilities which, together, produce 10 percent of all U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, or almost three percent of the global total. Dr. Neil Carman, chemist and Clean Air Program Director for the Lone Star (Texas) Sierra Club says that
"In TXU’s permit application for the Oak Grove plant, the company seeks to emit nearly 2,200 pounds of mercury per year which is the largest amount of mercury emissions for any power plant in the United States."
